Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a heavy gold plating on top of sterling silver. It is at least 2.5 microns thick - about 5 times thicker than regular gold plating. I plate my work in 14 Karat vermeil with a matte finish.
Vermeil lasts longer than regular gold plating but the gold layer can still wear down if not cared for properly. To prolong the life of the gold, do not wear them in the shower or pool, and keep them away from perfumes, lotions, or excessive sweat.

Yes, vermeil pieces can be replated for a fee. Please send a photo of the piece you would like replated to emilyrogstadjewelry@gmail.com and I will give you an estimate on the cost.
The turnaround time can be anywhere from 1-2 months because the plater has minimum batch quantities.

Each of the metals I offer should be treated differently:
Oxidized silver
The oxidation will naturally wear away over time creating bright highlights along the high points of the piece. Using a polishing cloth will rub away the oxidation, so to clean the piece use a soft toothbrush, dish soap and warm water.
Bright silver
Wearing your jewelry regularly helps to keep it polished as your skin constantly buffs the surface. To give it an extra polish use a silver polishing cloth.
Vermeil
Vermeil can tarnish naturally over time, especially when exposed to moisture. To care for your jewelry keep it stored in a dry place when not being worn.
